Most people see the name and think it’s just a nod to Rochester. And honestly, that’s not wrong. We are proudly rooted in this city. But the name goes a little deeper than that. If you’ve ever been curious about the story behind it, pull up a chair. This one’s worth telling.

ROC Events LLC stands for Rochester’s Official Connection.

Before you ask, no, I didn’t sit down one day and cleverly engineer that acronym. That name came from something that was already true about me long before I ever thought about turning it into a business. It wasn't a marketing gimmick. It was a lifestyle.

I Was the Go-To Girl

Here’s the thing about being the connector: you have to actually know people first. I didn't learn how to network in a boardroom or at a stiff mixer. I learned it behind the bar at the most popular nightclub in Rochester.

If you were anybody in this city, you were coming through those doors. Chances are, I was the one making your drink. Night after night, I met vendors, entrepreneurs, creatives, professionals, and everything in between. I learned what people did, what they needed, and who they should know.

When someone needed something, they called me. Need a vendor? I probably knew one. Need to find the right person for the right job? Call Marquita. I became the bridge between people naturally. It wasn't because I was trying to build a network. It was just what happens when you genuinely care about people and pay attention to the details. Rochester’s Official Connection wasn’t a title anyone gave me. It was just the truth.

How the Name Actually Happened

Here’s the part that always makes people laugh. When Instagram started taking off, I knew I needed a handle. I also knew that my full brand name, Rochester’s Official Connection, was never going to work as a social media handle.

Can you imagine typing out @rochestersofficialconnection every time you wanted to tag someone? Absolutely not. I wasn’t going to do that to people. I definitely wasn’t going to do it to myself. I shortened it to @rocevents, and just like that, the name started to take on a life of its own.

When I decided to legitimize everything and make it official, I legalized it as R.O.C. Events LLC. The full name was always there. It just needed the right moment to be recognized for what it really was. It was a commitment to being the standard for event design in Rochester, NY.

From Connector to Creator

ROC Events grew out of that same spirit. What started as being the person everyone called evolved into a full-service event design and production company. The whole point is still connection. It's just expressed differently now.
